Q: Is there anything better than getting free leftover Chipotle for lunch.
Now, that we’ve cleared that up. Let’s talk about working out. Ew, gross I don’t want to either but it’s bathing suit season and my wedding dress arrives at the end of this month and I love Chipotle, so what’s a girl to do.
Exercise. That’s what.
On Monday I realized we were 15 weeks out from the wedding (crazy!) and suddenly I became motivated to be healthy. It’s amazing what deadlines can do for a person. So this past week I made a VERY conscious effort to go to the gym before work and, while it almost killed me to get out of bed, I actually like feeling really great after my work out as I head into the office. Go figure.
With my new found motivation, I’ve invested a portion of my tax return (read: money I feel less guilty spending) on myself to purchase a few limited but intense workouts with a trainer. I’m riding the healthy train folks and so far I’m sore but I feel really good.
Here’s what this week looked like in exercise:
Monday – OTH Elliptical Session
Tuesday – Total Body Class
Wednesday – HITT
Thursday – Total Body Class
Friday – Intense Stretching and Stairmaster Burn
I don’t love getting up at 6:30am or showering at the gym but I do love the way it makes me feel: confident and healthy.
I’m also eating healthier (more protein and less white bread which is sad but necessary) as you may have noticed by the thousands of smoothie recipes I pinned recently. I’ll be sure to share any good recipes I find.
I did take ‘before’ pictures and I’m praying that my ‘after’ will be good enough that I have a reason to show them to you haha. Until then I plan to just keep being healthy. Except for tomorrow because I’m having my bridal shower with my mom’s family and the Goldmans! CANNOT WAIT!
KJ comes into town tonight and I have a delightful ladies night planned. Think manicures, wine and sushi. Oh and The Notebook. Duh.
Let me leave you with some relevant Qs & As from my first training session. I hope this helps you as much as it did me.
And please feel free to share any other fitness tips you may have!
Q: Which is better doing the elliptical (at a high incline and resistance) for 30 minutes or walking quickly on a treadmill (at a high incline) for 30 minutes?
A: The stairmaster for 30 minutes gives you a better workout.
Q: What if you don’t have a stairmaster?
A: Then probably the treadmill. Walk quickly at a steep incline and you’ll burn more calories than the elliptical. But if you have knee problems then do the elliptical as it’s easier for your joints.
Q: I’m busting my butt why am I not losing weight yet? (following by unintelligible whining sounds)
A: The weight went on gradually and it will come off the same way. Be patient and allow yourself cheat meals rather than cheat weekends to stay on track.
Q: Stretching is boring. I hate it. Why do I have to?
A: When you are lifting at all you’ll break down muscle tissue. The stretching helps your muscles to heal faster so you can get back into them sooner. [Note: Obviously I’m paraphrasing. It was a lot more technical. But basically it’s to help your muscles repair so you can break them down again therefore building them stronger and leaner.]
